University of Sussex: What is a Virtual School?

The University of Sussex School of Education and Social Work asked me to create a short animation explaining the work of Virtual Schools, who support children with a social worker.

Working alongside the client, we quickly settled on a seafaring analogy — it tied in with the emotional journey of the child, as well as the lighthouse logo of the Virtual School. Triangles also featured in the school's infographics and training materials, which brought us to the boats.

I hand-drew the main elements and added textures and effects within After Effects.

The client was delighted, and members of the Virtual School team were emotional when they saw it.

Looking Glass Solutions: offer video

Alice Dewar-Mills, from Looking Glass Solutions asked me for an animated film to future clients understand her work as a fractional finance director.

Working closely with Alice, we devised an Alice in Wonderland theme, using whimsical imagery to demonstrate the key points.

Kerry Lemon artist: bCorp annual summary

Artist Kerry Lemon asked for an explainer video to present her end of year statistics, a requirement for her bcorp status.

I wanted to honour her artistic voice, which focuses largely on the natural world. The elements were intentionally muted, the animations soft and the fonts gentle - a far cry from the usual animated statistical summaries.

Creative Pathways: participant information

Creative Pagthways was an Arts Council-backed initiative that matched volunteers with arts, heritage, and cultural organizations across the county. While that specific funded project is currently on hiatus, numerous active opportunities, short courses, and career programs remain.

I was invited to create a video to help participants understand how the scheme worked, and what they could hope to achieve.

Wild Neighbours animation capturing the urban wildlife in Hove

Another Kerry Lemon project, this time for her clients at MODA, a new residential development in the centre of Hove.

I was part of a wider citizen science project, highlighting the urban wildlife, and creating a conversation between the residents and the flora and fauna near their homes.

The animation used locally captured audio and told the story of 24 hours at MODA.
